When you Planning to go for Phuket diving either liveaboard or day trip, Chalong is a good place to stay. For a nice beach and more family orientated Kata and Karon are the places to stay. Patong, on the other hand, is more a party place with great nightlife. When you are going on a Similan liveaboard that leaves from Khoa Lak you better of staying either in the North of Phuket or Khoa Lak.
How to get there
Phuket has an international airport where daily scheduled flights arrive from Europe, Australia and other countries in Asia. Also, domestic flights from Bangkok fly into Phuket multiple times a day. When you arrive at the airport, make sure to take a meter taxi to your hotel. Because you probably pay a lot more if you arrange a price with other taxi drivers. If you arrive on the day your liveaboard departures, there is a driver waiting for you.
When to go
For Phuket diving, the best time to go is from November until May when the weather is at its best. During this time you can choose between liveaboards in the South and Similan and beach diving. Day trips are available all year round. Even so, it can rain a lot during the green season the diving is still great.
