Khoa Lak

Khoa Lak is located 70 kilometres North from Phuket and is known for long white sandy beaches that are backed by forest hills. Besides stunning beaches, Khoa Lak diving is very popular during high season when the Similan islands open up. Compare to Phuket it is much quieter, and more family orientated. So when you feel like escaping the hectic Khoa Lak is the place to stay.

Things To Do

Khoa Lak diving industry is mainly  Similan Diving Safaris as well as Myanmar diving cruises by liveaboard. You could make a day trip to the Similan national park, but we recommend a minimum stay of 4 days 4 nights to get the most value for your money. For the low season, Khao lak diving is orientated to day trips from Phuket because the Similan are not open during this time of the year.

Besides diving, there or plenty of other activities to do such as rafting, snorkelling, cooking classes and bicycling tours. For more nature, Khoa Sok and Lam Ru National Parks are easily accessible. At night time you can enjoy a beer in one of the many bars or watch the Moo Moo Cabaret show.

Where to Stay

Khoa Lak has a variety of hotels and hostels to choose from. Whatever your budget you can find a cheap room with only a fan to a luxury resort with swimming pool. Most hotels or no more than 30 minutes away from Tab Lamu pier where most liveaboards departure.

How to get there

To get to Khoa Lak, you have to get a flight to Phuket international airport. This can be either a domestic flight from Bangkok or one of the many international flights. From the airport, take a meter taxi. Other taxis are available, but they normally overcharge. If you have your hotel in Phuket but the liveaboard departs from Khoa Lak the transfer is including the price. Also, when you arrive on the day of the liveaboard departure transfer is arranged for you. Same is on the way back just keep in mind that you should not fly within 24 hours of your last dive.

When to go

The Khoa Lak diving season is from Half October until May. This is the best time to go because of the weather. During the other months, the wind turns and comes from the West. This causes bigger waves and sometimes unpredictable weather. That’s why the Similan National Park closes during this time. From May until October when you stay in Khoa Lak diving is going to be from Phuket on day trip boats.
